BALLROOM TECHNIQUE
Classes will focus on the basic elements of International Latin and Classic Ballroom. Depending on the pace of the class, the following ballroom technique elements will be introduced: alignment, grace, poise, posture, weight transfer, frame, rhythm, timing, musicality, forward-and-back movements, box steps, and arm and foot styling.

Classes will cover ballroom styles such as Cha-Cha (a lively dance derived from the mambo, characterized by its catchy rhythm and quick steps), Samba (a Brazilian dance that incorporates rapid steps and a bouncing rhythm), and Jive (a lively, fast-paced dance that is generally danced to up-beat swing or contemporary music).

As Associate Director and Choreographer for the National Tour of "Anything Goes," Jen Savelli was instrumental in helping make ballroom dancing more than just a separate performance in the show, but instead, weaving it into the narrative, particularly around the character of Hope Harcourt, a debutante preparing for her wedding.
Jennifer Savelli has danced professionally for over 25 years. At 17 she joined The Pennsylvania Ballet. She was a Radio City Rockette under the direction of Maurice Hines. Her Broadway credits include Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark, Anything Goes, Guys and Dolls, The Boy From Oz, Dance Of The Vampires, and Fosse. Jennifer was Kathleen Marshall's Associate Director and Choreographer for the National Tours of the Tony Award-winning Anything Goes! Jennifer has been in the casts of five City Center Encore Productions and was featured opening The Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas with Hugh Jackman. Her movie and TV credits include CHICAGO, Not Your Time, PBS' Broadway: The American Musical, and CBS' NYC 22. Jennifer has danced in TV award shows including The Kennedy Center Honors, The Tonys, Academy Awards, MTV Movie Awards, the VMA's; and she has directed and choreographed shows for Princess, Radisson, Carnival, and Oceania cruises. Jennifer is a permanent guest faculty at The Rock School and has taught at Akron University and Pennsylvania University's Dance Arts.

INTRODUCTION TO LYRA & SILKS
Aerial Arts at DANJ are classes focusing on the basic skills in lyra and silks, specifically for ages 10-17. Each class includes warm-ups designed for aerial activities, and concludes with body conditioning and stretching on the apparatus.
LYRA — RISE. FLOW. FLY.
Lyra, also known as aerial hoop, is a circular metal ring suspended from the ceiling used for acrobatic and dance-based movement above the ground. It blends strength, grace, and artistry perfect for dancers looking to expand their skills.
Dancers love it: Lyra builds Core Strength & Control; enhances Flexibility & Fluidity; boosts Confidence & Stage Presence; adds Dynamic, 3D Movement to Style. This class includes fundamental skills including inversions, pullovers, balances, flexibility skills, and poses.
SILKS — CLIMB. WRAP. SORE.
Silks are long fabric ribbons suspended from the ceiling, allowing dancers to climb, twist, drop, and flow through the air with breathtaking elegance.
Dancers love it: Silks builds Total-Body Strength, Endurance & Control; increases Flexibility & Body Awareness; develops Fluid Movement; and enhances Stage Presence & Dramatic Flair. The class includes fundamental skills including climbing, inversions, hanging upside down, and flexibility. As you progress, develop more strength and confidence, you may learn sequences, drops, slides, and flips.

WHAT TO WEAR
Apparel is very important for safety and comfort. All participants should wear leggings (full length), bring long socks for Lyra, and bring a sweat towel and/or baby powder (you can use a sock to put the baby powder on your feet and pat it on). Hair should be pulled back in a pony. The studio will provide strapping tape and liquid chalk.
Lexi Strumolo is an accomplished international artist. She began her training in dance and acrobatics at a young age in New York. Upon relocating to Australia, she studied at the Lee Academy, graduating with an Advanced Diploma in Dance. Lexi has performed as an aerialist, dancer, adagio artist and acrobat for many corporate events including Formula 1 racing, Telstra, Commonwealth Bank, Australia’s Got Talent - receiving 2 Golden Buzzers, Australia Tourism, and, as a lead dancer and aerialist, in “Salome” at the Sydney Opera House. In 2021, Lexi was cast in the lead adagio couple in “L’hotel”, the headlining show for the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. Click => Lexi Strumolo for video clips.

Lexi will also be offering private and semi-private lessons for anyone interested in reviewing the skills learned in class; progressing at a faster rate; and/or simply learning one-on-one. If you are interested in semi-private lessons (i.e., shared privates of two or more people), you are responsible to arrange the group.

Alison Ingelstrom is an Idaho native. She received her BFA in Dance Performance from the accredited Chapman University in Orange, California. Since moving to New York, Alison has worked with choreographers such as Sonya Tayeh, Ryan Heffington, Warren Carlyle, Ashley Wallen, and Marguerite Derricks. Most recently, Alison was one of the associate choreographers and dancers for the Hulu series Up Here. Some of her other tv/film credits include, Imaginary Friends (Paramount), Tick, Tick… BOOM! (Netflix), Blue’s Big City Adventure (Paramount Plus), The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon), The Macy’s Day Parade and Good Morning America.
Some of her commercial and brand credits include Neiman Marcus, Desigual, YSL, Mass Mutual, Gap, Macy’s, and Wella. She also performed on the world tour of Hugh Jackman: The Man, The Music, The Show as well as the Broadway lab of Moulin Rouge and Off-Broadway shows such as Seeing You and Cleopatra. Alison has a passion for teaching and choreographing and has traveled to studios throughout the US for over 10 years.
Jessica Dillan began her performance career upon moving to New York at age 18. Her professional journey started in the ballet world as a Corps de Ballet member with the Seiskaya Ballet and a Soloist with the Albano Ballet Company of America. There, she trained in the Legat system of Classical Ballet (stemming from the Russian Imperial Ballet) combined with Joseph Albano’s unique method: the Law of Centers and Theories of Rotors. This foundational training ignited her lifelong passion for understanding the body’s intricate mechanics and the science of movement.
Her extensive performance career includes Broadway and Off-Broadway credits in Thoroughly Modern Millie, Thou Shalt Not, CATS, and The Fartiste. She has also toured nationally and internationally with productions of Thoroughly Modern Millie (as Dance Captain), Swing!, CATS, On the Town, and Cabaret. Some of her most cherished roles include Rosie in Mamma Mia!, Maggie in A Chorus Line, Gloria in Damn Yankees, and Sarah in Civil War.
Beyond performing, Jessica is a dedicated educator. She has served on the faculty for the International College of Musical Theatre and has been a guest teacher at Wagner College and the Broadway Dreams Foundation. Her creative work extends to choreography, having co-created several ballets for the New Jersey Ballet Company and installed full-scale productions for Regent and Princess Cruise Lines.
Jessica is deeply passionate about empowering dancers as athletes, helping them strengthen, condition, and care for their bodies to meet the industry’s ever-evolving physical demands. As a NASM Certified Personal Trainer with additional specializations in Corrective Exercise, Women’s Fitness, and Pre/Postnatal training, plus a credential as a Certified Nutrition Coach (CNC), she brings a well-rounded, science-backed approach to functional movement and injury prevention. Formerly a Lead Teacher Trainer at Pure Barre FSA, she now serves as a Teacher Trainer at Movement Room Brooklyn, where she bridges the gap between fitness and sustainable performance for both dancers and everyday individuals.
Jōvan Dansberry is a St. Louis native who received his Bachelor of Arts from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Based in New York City, Jōvan is a movement director, choreographer, and performer in the theatre and commercial sectors, as well as a Professor of Dance at Rider University. Broadway/Tours: Bob Fosse’s Dancin, Wicked, King Kong. Jōvan has working at some of the best theaters in the country including: The Metropolitan Opera, Roundabout Theater Company, The Goodman Theater in Chicago, The Alliance Theater in Atlanta, and New York City Center. TV/Live Performances: “SNL!”, “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon”, The Tony Awards, “POSE”, “Up Here.” Outer Critics Circle Special Achievement in Theater. Jacob Hiss is a professional videographer. In addition to working freelance nationally for dance companies and educational institutions, he works as the videographer for Works at Exit12 Dance Company, Steps on Broadway, and Complexions Contemporary Ballet. Jacob is unique qualified to film dance as a dancer himself. He started studying ballet at the age of 10 at Studio Maestro, and went on to train with Manhattan Youth Ballet, French Academie of Ballet, and Premiere Division under the tutelage of Francois Perron and Nadege Hottier. His dance roles included Prince Florimund in Sleeping Beauty, the Beast in Beauty and the Beast at Queens Theater, and performances at Hudson Ballet Theatre. Jacob was also a member of the Exit 12 Dance Company, performing in their yearly Nutcracker production, before becoming their in-house videographer. Jacob studied Film at Wesleyan University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Film/Cinema/Video Studies.
