School Year Classes - After taking combo classes, the next logical step in dance education is to begin focusing on individual styles of dance: ballet, tap, jazz and acro. Ballet provides the foundation and a vocabulary for all styles of dance. Jazz and tap provide two rhythmic movement styles appropriate for young children. Acro enhances flexibility and strength. The following classes help ensure that the children progress together and at a relatively accelerated rate:
Mondays
In addition to the classes listed above, Mini Team dancers may enroll in other classes. Families interested in joining the mini team who have unresolvable conflicts with these class times should consult with the DANJ directors for possible work-arounds.
Summer Classes - Mini Team dancers attend DANJ's Summer Tech and Ballet Bootcamp programs.
In addition to developing technique in class, Mini Team dancers begin learning more complex choreography as well as performance skills. These activities improve their spatial awareness, appreciation for working as a team, and self-confidence. The dancers learn two dance pieces - tap and jazz. The choreography and rehearsals for these pieces will be held as follows:
Saturdays
The competitions provide a fun and inspiring way for the dancers to perform on stage for family, friends and for professional feedback. DANJ seeks out competitions that attract talented dancers and engage highly respected judges. The Mini Team attends three regional competitions. Mini Team members can also attend additional 'optional' conventions and competitions. Visit our Team Achievements!
Dancers ranging in age from 4 to 7 are invited to join the team based on faculty observations in class and/or auditions. Anyone interested in joining the DANJ Mini Team should contact the studio office.
